THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS...

4:00 PM UPDATE
HI WIND WARNING EXPIRED AT 4:00 PM
RED FLAG WARNING EXPIRES AT 8:00 PM
Wheeww!
VERY DRY CONDITIONS REST OF WEEK
(STAY ALERT & SEND SOME RAIN REQUESTS!)

Our firefighters deserve so more than we can possibly give. I hope they get home to some hugs, warm showers, and rest. We are thankful for each and every one of them.

I feel like we dodged a bullet this week. Now back to just normal fire conditions (bad enough) without the Purple Extreme.

It's been calm in The Elenas for the last few hours. Cloud cover has moved over us from the west, so humidity levels should be coming up.

The Red Flag warning is still scheduled to expire in a few hours at 8:00 PM.

Power outages in Dulzura, Morena, etc. not due for restoration until Tuesday. Other areas by tomorrow.

If you suffered any losses due to power loss (food spoilage, etc.) there is a claim form here:

I think we all deserve a little break from the high alert for so many days.
Everyone:  Rest. Enjoy. Kiss your loved ones.

PEAK WINDS:
NOTE: SDG&E has turned off power immediately east of us— Circuit 0157 affecting 337 customers in Dulzura and east.  Deerhorn (#067) is on an adjacent circuit.  I don't know if there was any warning, but it was "turned off for safety reasons."

There has also been a report of one customer dependent on breathing apparatus, who was without power and suffering dizziness and lack of oxygen.  Firefighters and neighbors responded.  These are times when we need to remember to count our blessings, along with experiencing the worry and fear.  I am so grateful for this social media that helps keep us informed, and for everyone who is posting on the various Facebook pages.  In 2007 Harris Fire we did not know for many days whether homes were still standing.

There is a fire burning about 2-3 miles south of the border near Shockey Truck Trail in Campo.  FF's say there is no current threat to U.S.  Wind direction is blowing from N and E... so away from border.  Bomberos are in vicinity attempting to attack it.  Another time to feel grateful for our fire fighters and their equipment.

DAY FIVE EXTREME WINDS EVENT
Looks like a long day ahead.  Power has been turned off in many communities to our east and also a small circuit in Jamul (47 customers). Winds are blowing here in the Elenas (where we are fairly protected). Feels like last Thursday, maybe stronger. Nothing yet from scanner. Please post any info on fires, trees down. Also, Brush Fire Partyline https://www.facebook.com/bfpartyline/ has a post pinned to the top of their page for reports of new fires: good page to monitor for as long as we have power. Peak gust in Deerhorn (Sierra Cielo monitor) during last hour is 25mph. Much higher to north, east.
Let's all stay safe and alert. Please post with any emergency info. We need everyone's eyes and ears today. Hugs to you all.
Here are wind gusts for last hour from monitor stations:

POWER OUTAGE MAP

QUICK PREP LIST:
  • Battery-powered radio with extra batteries. Flashlights.
  • Generator— Extra fuel.  Check to see you know how to use it and it works.
  • Have enough water on hand— especially if power is off.  Fill tubs, trashcans ahead of time.  Top up while there is power.
  • Food for three days.
  • Information— While we have power, monitor TV/radio/internet — Keep eyes and ears on outside conditions — Don't wait for evacuation orders if you see fire or feel threatened.
  • Animals— what is your plan for them?  If evacuating to shelter, bring crates for dogs/cats. Write cell# on horses, larger animals.
  • Access— Make sure emergency responders can get through gates. Today I put full trashcans of water, ladders, and shovels out where they can be seen.

—BE VIGILANT—
REPORT ALL SMOKE IMMEDIATELY TO 911
DISPATCHER WILL TRANSFER YOU TO FIRE DEPT
