VOTE: Should the Jamul Indians build a casino?

The San Diego Union-Tribune currently has a poll open.  If you haven't already voted, please do so.  These comments will be part of the record and a good rebuttal to those who say the residents are OK with this latest proposal.
Below are the results as of today (Tuesday afternoon.)  With nearly 800 votes from throughout the county, more than 80% say "no."  Be sure to read the comments (37 at last count).  Many are from those who have spent years, even decades involved in the various projects the current tribal leaders have put forward.
If you have not yet registered your vote, here is the link:

How to remove and evict your anti-casino elders from the Jamul Tribe and their life-long homes: with armed private security and bulldozers.
Artist rendering of current proposal.  It is surely difficult to depict thousands of cars; the artist shows just one.

SKYHUNTERS at the Red Barn

Raptors.... Up Close and Personal!

Raptor expert, Nancy Conney, made a repeat visit to Deerhorn Valley yesterday.  What a treat to see such incredible creatures so close.  She carefully  tailored her presentation to our local raptors, and we had wonderful interactions with a red-tailed hawk, kestrel, barn owl, and tiny screech owl among others.  Paul and Dianne Jacob attended, along with some eighty residents.  The shaded patio was filled, and the setting could not have been more perfect.  There was lots of neighbor talking and sharing after... a wonderful event for all.
The setting was perfect...

RAT POISON LIKELY CAUSE OF DV BOBCAT DEATHS

Bobcat dying of notoedric mange near Elena Lane and Deerhorn Valley Rd.
Last year DeerhornValley.net published some photos of what we could only identify as a "mystery cat." It now appears that a deadly outbreak of a lethal mange has made its way to our area, and research is pointing to the use of anti-coagulant (blood thinning) rodent poisons as the cause. These poisons (D-Con, Tomcat) require multiple feedings to take effect, but as the squirrel, rat or gopher becomes sicker and slower, they also become easier prey for their main predators: hawks, owls, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, domestic dogs and cats.

Our hawks and owls are returning in larger numbers this year and feed on our rodent population. If the anticoagulant rodent poisons continue to be used, we may lose many natural predators and any hope of re-reducing the population of squirrels and rats to a "normal" level.
