CRASH - FIRE - PRESS CONFERENCE at 11:00 AM

 PRESS CONFERENCE THIS MORNING
PEACEFUL VALLEY RD (NEAR JAMUL FIRE STATION)
ARRIVE BY 11 AM

Today's protest and press conference comes in the wake of a car crash in Jamul on Thursday that sparked a brushfire, forced authorities to close state Route 94 and underscored the need for improvements to the highway.
Though winds were almost a non-factor,  the fire moved very rapidly through the dry grasses and toward hillside homes.  Imagine the same scenario in the dark of night or during Red Flag Santa Ana winds.  We may not be so lucky next time.

CHAIRWOMAN DIANNE JACOB
San Diego County Board of Supervisors
COMMUNITY TO CALTRANS: DO YOUR JOB
WHAT:
County Supervisor Dianne Jacob and other community leaders will protest Caltrans’ failure to complete critically  needed safety improvements on state Route 94.
California Highway Patrol statistics show that rural SR-94 has become significantly more dangerous since the opening of the Hollywood Casino in Jamul last October. Over an eight-month period, from early October through May, the number of traffic collisions on the highway exceeded what it typically sees over an entire year.
Yet Caltrans has not finished – or even started – many of the critical improvements it had promised in anticipation of the casino. State officials continue to also allow the casino to operate with an interim liquor license, despite the added public safety risks.

WHEN:           Friday, June 30, 11:30 a.m.
WHERE:
14090 Campo Road, Jamul.

DIRECTIONS: From 94, turn onto Peaceful Valley Ranch Road, just before casino, then
an immediate left onto dirt access road.
