HEAVY RAINS ON THE WAY

BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!
HEAVY RAINS ON THE WAY
THURSDAY—TUESDAY

GROUND IS ALREADY SUPER SATURATED
5+ INCHES EXPECTED

EXPECT MAJOR RUN-OFFS & FLOODED ROADS
LOW SPOTS ON HONEY SPRINGS & DEERHORN VALLEY RD.

Back to DeerhornValley.net

IMPASSABLE SPOTS: LOWER MOTHER GRUNDY TRUCK TRAIL HAS BEEN CUT OFF IN PAST STORMS LIKE THIS.  HAVE A BACKUP ROUTE IF YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH FROM EITHER SIDE OF HONEY SPRINGS.  (FRIENDS' HOUSE, ETC.)

ROAD CONDITIONS MAY CHANGE RAPIDLY— DON'T EXPECT WARNING SIGNS.  HAVE ENOUGH GAS TO TAKE A LONG DETOUR IF NEEDED.  DON'T TAKE A CHANCE ON CROSSING FLOODED ROADS, ESPECIALLY IF WATER IS MOVING FAST:  THIS FROM JANUARY 2010 AT THE HONEY SPRINGS UPPER DIP (LOWER ONE ALSO CLOSED): 6IN OF MOVING WATER IS ENOUGH TO DO THIS:
Upper Honey Springs Dip

Even after waters go down, mud and debris are still hazardous for driving.

Lower Honey Springs Dip

CHECK THE CULVERTS NEAR YOUR HOME OR DRIVEWAY TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE FREE OF DEBRIS.  DURING HEAVY RAIN BRANCHES AND BRUSH CAN QUICKLY CLOG CULVERTS AND DRAINS, AND BACK UP TO FLOOD ROADS AND DRIVES.

That's Sheriff Dane... AFTER the water had gone down far enough to allow cars through.  Don't go fast (you can kill your engine with the water splash back), and DON'T stop (you may not get going again.)  Be safe.  Let the water subside until you KNOW how deep it is.  And what the conditions are under the water... mud, erosion, debris, etc.

HWY 94 CAN CLOSE DOWN TOO—  This is the dip on 94 (through Rancho Jamul) a couple of years ago when the culvert jammed.  There was no traffic control, and no warning signs.  Several vehicles tried to go through and didn't make it.  It's a long way to turn around and go back, but beats a tow bill and the water damage to your car.

SANDBAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DULZURA FIRE STATION.  BRING A SHOVEL TO FILL YOUR OWN BAGS.

BE SAFE EVERYONE.  LET US KNOW ABOUT ROAD CONDITIONS IF YOU COME ACROSS TREES, FLOODED SPOTS, ETC.  SHERIFFS WILL BE BUSY WITH SPEEDERS AND SPINOUTS, SO LET'S BE PROACTIVE AND WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER!

LET'S STAY CONNECTED!
