Coming Up: HIKE WITH A RANGER

Nature and Bird Walk at the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge
Sweetwater Interpretive Loop
Saturday  ~  September 28, 2013  ~  7-10 am

Come and explore the incredibly diverse riparian forest along the Sweetwater River . Guided by a Refuge Interpretive Ranger and a Wildlife Biologist, learn to identify birds by their appearance, songs, and behaviors: migrating warblers, resident woodpeckers, California towhees, scrub jays, raptors, and more. Though the native vegetation may look dry and "dead" at this time of year, the riparian forest along the river is bustling with life; birds erupt in bubbling song, reptiles skitter across the path, and rabbits and coyotes dart through the landscape. We might even see a greater roadrunner or a red diamond rattlesnake!
All ages are welcome. Wear sunscreen, sturdy hiking shoes, and a hat. Bring water and your binoculars. If you don't have any, refuge staff will have binoculars to borrow.
SPACES ARE LIMITED - RSVP TO SECURE YOURS!

WHERE: The Sweetwater Interpretive Loop is also locally known as the "old steel bridge" trailhead location. The refuge property starts at the wooden informational kiosk, which leads you to a tiny bridge over Steele Canyon Creek, and up onto the rest of the trail system, eventually connecting to the Sweetwater River Trail.
