For at least two nights an oversized truck has been moving a large load of machinery (400,000 lbs) along SR-94. During the moves they have closed to road to traffic in both directions.
About 11PM last night the truck became disabled while attempting to negotiate one of the curves. At 5:37 AM CalTrans sent out a notice via Twitter, and a check of the CHP Log showed that 94 had been closed for many hours. The truck needed parts and repairs, and an attempt to weld the pieces failed. At 11:30 one-lane traffic control is still in effect and the truck is still there.
Sobering thoughts:
If this occurred during a wildfire emergency how would crews, engines, and water tenders get through? How would residents evacuate?
